Cut Slow, Stitched to Stay

A two-bench workshop making full-grain leather goods that outlive trends — and their receipts.

Our Story

Rivetwood started in 2016 with a secondhand splitter, a box of brass rivets and a stubborn belief: a jacket, bag or boot should be bought once and repaired forever. Nine years on we still cut every panel in-house, still skive and burnish every edge by hand, and still know most of our customers by name.

We work only with gold-rated tanneries, publish the origin of every hide, and keep a repair bench that will re-stitch, re-edge or re-line anything we have ever sold — free, for life.

  • 100% full-grain, vegetable-tanned hides — never bonded, never split.
  • Solid brass and steel hardware, guaranteed against failure.
  • Free lifetime repairs on stitching, edges and linings.

The Bench

Walk into our Foundry Lane workshop and you will smell it before you see it: tannins, beeswax and neatsfoot oil. Hides rest here for weeks before cutting so they settle; panels are clicked, skived, glued, stitched at seven per inch, then burnished with canvas and wax.

It is slow. A duffle takes eleven hours; a jacket takes twenty. That is the point — time at the bench is what you feel every time you pick the piece up, years later.

Honest materials

Full-grain hides from audited tanneries, named on every product page. If we wouldn't cut our own jacket from it, we don't sell it.

Repairable by design

Replaceable linings, re-stitchable seams, re-burnishable edges. Landfill is a design flaw, and we design around it.

Fair hands

Every maker here earns a living wage, signs their work, and trains an apprentice. Craft is a relay, not a secret.

Work With Us

We hire slowly and train patiently. Openings — stitchers, clickers, repair bench, retail — are posted here first and stay open until the right hands apply.

Current openings: apprentice stitcher (full-time, Roanoke) and weekend retail host. Send a short note and photos of anything you've made to hello@rivetwoodleather.com with “Career” in the subject.
